Glenview, 20 miles north of the Loop, has often been singled out for its desirable schools, wealth of businesses, parks, and lovely homes.
The community developed elaborate plans for the site of the former Glenview Naval Air Station (GNAS). The development is a 300-acre parcel which includes 64 acres of mixed residential, 35 acres of business/retail use and a 72-acre commercial light industrial office park.
The Glenview Park District operates parks, playgrounds, tennis courts, softball fields, basketball courts and “The Grove,” an 82-acre nature preserve. The district also offers a wide range of classes and programs.
Housing. Homes in Glenview feature a variety of styles and prices. Single-family homes ranged in price from $185,000 to $2,250,000 in 2003. The average home sale price in 2003 was $504,871.
Townhouses and apartment-style condominiums begin at around $137,900 and go up to more than $459,000. Converted townhouses usually run from $178,500 to $864,588. The average attached housing sale price in 2003 was $504,871.
Studio apartments start at $700 a month. One-bedrooms begin at $750 and two-bedrooms start at $950 a month and go much higher.
Schools. Glenview has had a high school, a junior high and an elementary school recognized by the National Excellence in Education award.
Elementary students attend school districts 30, 31, 34, 37,63 and 65. The majority of Glenview’s teenage students attend Glenbrook North High School and Glenbrook South High School in district 225, one of the most highly rated schools in greater Chicago.
Some of Glenview’s students attend New Trier High School in district 203 or Maine East High School in district 207.
Transportation. Glenview is located between the Edens Expressway 0-94) and the Tri-State Tollway 0-294). Drive time to the Loop is 30 minutes. Rail commuters may board the train at the recently renovated Glenview station for a 35-minute trip to the Loop. O’Hare Airport is a 20-minute drive, and Midway is 55 minutes away. Metra rail commuters reach the Loop in 35 minutes. Bus service is available.
